Este llego con ropas de mendicante. Su huesped, no reconociendolo en tal atuendo, le hizo a un lado: -No podemos tenerte aqui en el umbral. Esperamos en cualquier momento al famoso maestro Ikkyu. El Maestro se volvio a su casa, cambio esas ropas por el manto ceremonial de brocado purpura y se presento de nuevo en el umbral del huesped. Fue recibido con el debido respeto e introducido en la sala del banquete. Alli, quitandose el manto y acomodandolo en un cojin, Ikkyu dijo: -Supongo que habeis invitado al manto, ya que a mi me habeis hechado hace un momento.
